About Edge Cases
Edge Cases is a newsletter about UI/UX design, AI disruption, and the uncomfortable conversations we’re not having in the games industry.
I’m a UI designer with 25+ years in the industry. EA, Disney, Nintendo, Lego, Warner Bros, Nike. I’ve designed interfaces for games millions of people play.
Now I write about what it means to be a designer when AI can do half your job. About dark patterns and where the line is. About finding your voice when you’re not sure you have one. About navigating an industry that won’t stop changing.
What you’ll get here:
Game design ethics. The manipulation, the dark patterns, the choices we make and justify.
AI and creativity. What becomes more valuable when machines can generate the easy stuff. (Spoiler: taste, judgment, knowing what not to build.)
Industry reality. Layoffs, pivots, uncertainty. The stuff we’re all thinking but not saying.
Finding voice. The messy process of showing up consistently after years of sporadic writing.
Personal stories. Including the two years I spent designing a gambling app and what that taught me about complicity.
Who this is for:
Designers trying to figure out their next move.
People working in games who have thoughts they’re not sure how to say out loud.
Anyone navigating a changing industry and realizing the old playbook doesn’t work anymore.
If you’ve ever felt like an edge case yourself, you’re in the right place.
Publishing schedule:
Weekly…. daily… (Or whenever I actually hit publish. Still working on the consistency thing.)
Subscribe if you want to follow along as I figure this out.
Or don’t. No pressure.
But if you’re also navigating this weird moment in the industry, it might help to know you’re not alone.
